MSK ultrasound is not just about soft tissue as you might know.
Here is a good example of such a case: 40-ish male complains of sudden pain over the anterolateral thorax after coughing a lot during a cold last week. X-ray at the ER showed no rib fracture and the patient was diagnosed with a "possible tear" of the abdominal muscles. He now 1.5 weeks later seeks an US-exam to confirm the tear since he is still in a lot of pain. Gentle stretching as recommended by the physcian only seem to hurt more.
US easily and clearly show a fracture of the 10th rib. You can see how it moves during normal breathing.
